Sunk Cost: Meeting Meter
Sunk Cost shows what a meeting costs while it happens. Add the people in the room by title, start the meter, and watch the bill climb. End the meeting for a receipt you can share. It is a gag with a real calculator inside.
How it works
- Who's in the room. Tap + next to a title for each person attending. The Burn Rate card shows what the room costs an hour and a minute.
- Start the meter. The total and the clock run on a full-screen meter. Pause for the coffee break; Resume when it is over.
- End. Choose "Stop and print the receipt" for a till receipt with a line per title, the total and a verdict, or "Throw it away" to forget the meeting.
- Share the damage. Sends the receipt as a picture through the iOS share sheet.
- Receipts. The scroll icon at the top left lists every receipt under a lifetime total. Swipe one left to delete it.
Questions
How is the cost worked out?
Each person's yearly salary is spread over a working year of 2,080 hours (40 hours a week for 52 weeks) to get a cost per second, and the meter adds up everyone in the room for every second it runs. Change the working hours in Settings. Switch on "Count the full cost of a person" to multiply salaries by 1.4, a common rule of thumb for benefits, payroll tax and overhead, which you can adjust.
Where do the salaries come from?
They are rough, illustrative US averages chosen to look plausible, not figures from any survey and not anyone's actual pay. Tap any title to type the real number for your company.
Can I add or rename titles?
Yes. Tap a title to rename it, change its salary or delete it. "Add a title" at the bottom of the list creates a new one. Settings › "Reset titles and salaries" brings the originals back.
Does the meter keep running when I lock the phone or switch apps?
Yes. It counts from the clock, not from the screen, so the total is right when you come back, even if the app was closed in the meantime. Pausing is the only thing that stops it.
Why is everything in US dollars?
The first version uses dollars only. You can type salaries in your own currency; the amounts will still show a dollar sign.
Where is my data?
On your phone, and nowhere else. The app has no account and no network connection. Deleting the app deletes everything it stored.
Is this my company's real cost?
No. The totals are estimates for entertainment, built from the salaries you set and a simple working-year formula.
